Project Scorpio's memory specifications unpacked
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 9 June 2017 | Categories: newsThis Sunday, more specifically 11 June at midnight (SAST) will see Microsoft lift the veil on its highly anticipated Project Scorpio gaming console. We've already gotten a slight rundown of the specifications it will be sporting via Digital Foundry, and now Microsoft has detailed that an additional 1 GB of RAM has been "unlocked" for developers to design more graphic intensive titles.
We’ll keep tuning Scorpio to empower creators to share the best versions of their games. Unlocked extra GB of RAM for them, now 9GB of GDDR5

While it seems like a fairly innocuous tidbit ahead of the console's reveal, it is worth noting that when the specifications of Project Scorpio were first revealed in April, 4 GB of the total 12 GB of memory were originally partitioned for system functions. This new development, according to Polygon, therefore means that Microsoft's engineers have been able to with 3 GB of RAM what 4 GB of RAM was originally needed for.
As it stands then, Project Scorpio will not only feature the most RAM of any high-end console at the moment, but will also include one of the most efficiently engineered specification setups around. To put it in perspective, Project Scorpio has double the RAM capacity for playing graphically demanding titles than the PS4 Pro.
With the console war set to heat up once again, Project Scorpio will clearly lead the charge for Microsoft. Will Sony have something to retaliate with?
