Rumoured DOOM movie could go direct to streaming services
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 23 April 2018 | Categories: NewsDOOM was one of the better gaming reboots a couple of years ago, but now it's time to turn our attention to the movie adaptation of the FPS title, because the 2005 version starring The Rock needs to be scrubbed from the world's collective psyche.
To that end, Variety has confirmation from NBCUniversal that the company will be producing a DOOM film. The finer details of the film are unknown, but it is reported that it will not be set for a theatrical release. A few years ago that may have been an issue, but with the continued success of streaming platforms, NBC may be turning to one of those services to release their upcoming DOOM project.
As for casting decisions, the only confirmed one is Nina Bergman (Sharknado 3), but it's unclear what role she will play in the film. She did, however mention in a recent tweet that filming will happen in Bulgaria, and that the movie has a "cool director" attached to it. We're tipping Tron: Legacy's Joseph Kosinski to helm the project, especially as he did a good job on the DOOM live-action trailer.
With the bar fairly low when it comes to the previous DOOM movie, hopefully this new one can do the gaming franchise justice.
