Last week saw Samsung officially calling an end to the Galaxy Note 7. The company is currently recalling all of the phablet devices that have been sold to date amid exploding battery, but has also tried to offer some respite to former Note 7 owners that opted to trade their phablet in for another Galaxy device. Those that got a S7 and S7 edge instead have reported an update, according to Engadget. 

The update ports a handful of always-on display functions to the slightly older devices, specifically the ability to customise content that pops up on the screen. The port is not fully fledged, however, as the Note 7 S Pen also played a part in the always-on displays functionality. 

While this update does not give the Galaxy S7 the multitasking functionality of a Note, it may just be the shape of things to come, especially as Samsung has not publicly confirmed why the phablet's batteries proved so volatile in the first place. 

Next year's Mobile World Congress then, may see Samsung integrate even more Note features to the Galaxy S8 and S8 edge, but all this is conjecture at this point. For now, enjoy the added features as it rolls out across devices in coming weeks.
