When we first heard that Paramount and Dreamworks were working on a live-action version of Ghost in the Shell, we were understandably excited. Then, we heard Scarlett Johansson would be playing the lead role of Major Motoko Kusanagi, which brings into question several things, most important of which is her lack of Japanese or Asian heritage. While we're unsure how fans of the cult Anime will react to her portrayal of an iconic character, an official image has been released to offer fans a glimpse of what she'll look like.

While we have our reservations about the casting, the project as a whole looks promising. Johansson for one, has racked up plenty of experience playing strong characters that can dish it out as good as the men, having played the Avengers' Black Widow in numerous films now. Helming the project is Rupert Sanders, who surprised many with his work on Snow White and the Huntsman. Furthermore, Mitsuhisa Ishikawa, who produced the original 1995 Anime, will also be lending his knowledge to the film.

Ghost in the Shell is expected to hit theatres on 31 March, 2017.
