The past few years have been really good to those looking for some alternative horrors, with movies such as The Babadook, Hereditary, It Comes at Night and A Quiet Place. Perhaps taking its cue from the latter, where you’re not allowed to make a sound, is the latest movie heading to Netflix. However, in Bird Box, it’s sight that is a problem, since people start seeing manifestations of their greatest fears.

Helming the project is Danish director Susanne Bier, perhaps best known for Things We Lost in the Fire and the series The Night Manager. There’s also a number of other big talents involved, including Sandra Bullock (Demolition Man) as the lead Malorie, perennial favourite John Malkovich (Johnny English) and Sarah Paulson who is appearing soon in M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass.

We’re big fans of those end-of-the-world scenes where everything goes to hell in a handbasket, so luckily we get to see things fall apart in the trailer for Bird Box. A typical survivor scenario plays out where Malorie teams up with others, but then also struggles for survival as they set out being blindfolded and constantly having to be vigilant of the manifestations. Comparisons will be made to 2008’s Blindness, although Bird Box seems to play out much differently.

The movie heading to Netflix comes 21 December as a nice little Xmas present. Hit play below to see how these blind mice cope.
