Early last month, Sony announced a partnership with ZMP Inc to collaborate on the manufacture of commercial drones. The newly formed entity named Aerosense, has apparently wasted no time whatsoever, as Sony has just detailed two new drone prototypes.

First is the DTO1-E, which looks more like a plane than your conventional quadcopter type drone. It does however maneuver much like a quadcopter, as it is capable of taking off and landing vertically. According to Sony, it can also reach 170 km/h, and carry loads just under 10 kg. As such, it could prove a great rival to the likes of Amazon Prime Air or DHL's drone delivery service.

The second prototype, AS-MCO1-P, is a far smaller and lighter quadcopter. It also fits more in line with commercial offerings available at the moment, as it sports a camera with embedded GPS, as well as a navigation system.

For now, Aerosense will be based out of Tokyo, with the company detailing that it plans to rollout specific drone-related services in the early part of 2016. Till then, check out both prototypes take flight in the videos below.
