Sources say Instagram's video hub could launch on 20 June
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 7 June 2018 | Categories: newsInstagram could have a number of changes coming this month, with the Wall Street Journal (paywall) reporting that the social media platform will soon support videos up to one hour length. The next addition could see a video hub for professional content, according to TechCrunch, which would give Instagram a dedicated space akin to that of Facebook's Watch and Snapchat's Discover offerings.
Still an unconfirmed rumour at this stage, it's unclear when the feature will be rolled out, but TechCrunch believes it to around 20 June. Also unknown is how content creators will be able to monetise their videos on the hub, and whether it will support links for viewers to purchase endorsed or sponsored products, which is a viable source of income for many professional Instagrammers.
While similar to Snapchat Discover, it's understood that Facebook (which owns Instagram) will be positioning the video hub for those who currently create content on sites like YouTube, promising that they will have a potential audience of millions.
Whether they can deliver on that promise, remains to be seen.
