Trailer for the R-rated Batman: The Killing Joke animated movie arrives
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 29 April 2016 | Categories: newsUnlike the live-action DC films, the recent animated versions have proved a real hit with fans, as movies like Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox merge stories and art together in a great way.
Warner Bros. will likely be hoping its latest animated movie, Batman: The Killing Joke will do just as well. Bringing Alan Moore’s eponymous and highly controversial graphic novel to life, it chronicles the descent into madness of the Clown Prince of Crime and his torture of the Gordon family.
The film will hit TVs in July, although a precise release date remains unconfirmed. This is one that we're certainly eager to watch, as the graphic novel is easily one of the best Batman stories we've ever read. More recently though, The Killing Joke proved a rather divisive talking point as a variant cover paying homage to the 1988 comic book for last year's Batgirl #41 sparked outrage on social media. Consequently, DC pulled the cover and issued an apology for artwork that some claimed promoted violence against women.
Whether or not the animated version will be as violent as the comic book remains to be seen, but this film does carry an R-rating, which means things could get quite bloody. Press play on the trailer below and see if it piques your interest.
