It looks like Twitter's latest batch of updated rules are not simply there for effect, with the social media platform acting against several accounts over the weekend which were viewed to have breached them.
To that end, a number of Twitter users were suspended, with violations ranging from stealing other tweets, and jokes in particular, as well as spamming tweets or using bots in order to help make their messages go viral. All of these activities are what is commonly known as 'Tweetdecking'.
According to Buzzfeed, the accounts deemed to have infringed range in followers’ numbers, with some even counting in the millions. Speaking to The Verge, Twitter explained that the latest move is part of a broader plan to combat spam content on its platform, with violators running the risk of having their account either temporarily or permanently suspended.
With this latest development a positive step in Twitter cleaning up its platform, it should be interesting to see how they cope with malicious actors in the upcoming United States mid-term elections, which is viewed as an area that Russian-backed accounts are believed to be targeting.
