Along with the latest monthly desktop browser stats, market research firm, Net Applications, also released its updated mobile and tablet browser market share figures for April 2012.

Apple’s Safari browser is still king of the mobile browsing jungle, gobbling up the biggest slice (63.84%) of the global mobile browser usage pie. This is up from 60.54% registered for March.

Claiming a very distant second place is Google’s Android browser, whose share of 18.87% is ever so slightly higher than the 18.30% the browser obtained in March. Completing the top 3 is Opera Software’s Opera Mini browser, which sees its stake decreasing from 15.39% for March to 12.05% within April.

On the fringes

When it comes to the mobile browser fringes we see that Research In Motion’s BlackBerry browser’s share of 1.62% is slightly down on March’s 1.73% stake. The Symbian browser isn’t faring much better, claiming a 1.32% share of the global mobile browser pie, which is down from 1.56% recorded in March.

Whilst IE is a giant when it comes to desktop browsers, Microsoft’s mobile browser hasn’t quite reached those heights yet, as its employed by 0.58% of web surfers when using their tablets and smartphones.

In other browser related news, Mozilla recently implemented the silent update plans for its popular web browser a little earlier than expected, as the latest version (12) of Firefox supports this functionality.
