Panasonic goes olympic with 3D highlights
By Hanleigh Daniels 15 February 2010 | Categories: newsWhile the Winter Olympics got off to a blistering start, Panasonic on Friday opened its Olympic Pavilion showcasing 3D footage of the Olympics. Their “Full HD 3D Theatre” sports two massive 103" HD 3D plasma TV sets at LiveCity Yaletown in Vancouver, Canada, which is the official celebration site of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
The Panasonic HD 3D theatres will screen highlight packages of the 2010 Games and other available video, which includes Sarah Brightman performing the Panasonic song “Shall Be Done”, and, more dissapointingly, soundbites from Panasonic executives. Utilising Panasonic's frame sequential technology, the footage will be reproduced alternatively at 60 fps for each eye. Both the left and right eye will get to view a separate 1920 x 1080 full HD image making for high quality and clear 3D images, of course only if viewed through 3D glasses.
“We’ve successfully moved from black and white, to color, to high definition television. But immersive, totally realistic 3D imagery has been the final frontier,” said Eisuke Tsuyuzaki, chief technology officer at Panasonic Corporation of North America. Hopefully we can we expect similiar setups from official sponsor Sony during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa in June.
