Motorola Milestone arrives in the country
 
Motorola wants to stake its claim on the budding smartphone market with today's introduction of its Milestone mobile phone. This slim (13.7mm) slider is powered by Android 2.1, sports a 3.7" multi-touch display (with pinch and zoom functionality) and a QWERTY keyboard. The Milestone will initially only be available through MTN.
 
“Milestone is a smart phone without compromise, delivering a wiser, richer web and messaging experience. This is possible through the combination of Motorola’s expertise in design and a truly differentiated Android experience,” says Stephen Nolan, Motorola's area vice president for the Middle East and Africa. “We have been delighted with the anticipation and demand for Milestone across the world and [are] pleased to announce its arrival in South Africa today.”
 
Vodacom offers more data for free
 
Vodacom customers that are on Data Bundles smaller than 3 GB will be receiving between 17% and 60% more data for free as of 1 May. Most of Vodacom’s Data Bundle clients are going to receive 20% more free data and in certain instances will be paying around 17c per MB. This offer applies to customers who are subscribed to a Data Contract, as well as to those ones who intermittently buy bundles once-off and is available on both the Broadband Advanced and the Broadband Standard services. Now the data ball is in MTN’s court.
 
SanDisk unveils its highest capacity SD card ever
 
SanDisk announced the release of their 64 GB SanDisk Ultra SDXC card, featuring a read speed of up to 15 MB/sec and a Class 4 speed rating, which makes it ideally suited for capturing and storing 1080p HD video files, and then transfering them quickly to your computer. It can store over eight hours of HD video, with recording speed of 9 Mbps (HD standard). “SDXC is the successor to the popular SDHC card format,” explained Susan Park, director, retail product marketing, SanDisk. “The 64GB SanDisk Ultra SDXC card delivers the speed and capacity consumers need for extended HD video recording and improved rapid shooting of still images. The card is an ideal complement for recently-announced SDXC-compatible cameras and camcorders.”

LG SA moves into new home

 
LG found a new home, located in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. Various guests including government officials, suppliers, partners and staff attended the inauguration of the new LG Electronics SA offices yesterday evening. The function was presided over by the Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Dr Gwen Mahlangu Nkabinde. According to Peet van Rooyen, CEO of LG Electronics South Africa, the move will enhance the level and quality of customer service to consumers and dealers with new warehousing and logistics companies partnering with the consumer giant to ensure the needs of customers are prioritised. The company also announced that it is now a Level 6 Black Economic Empowered certified company, which according to them is a first for a company of its kind in South Africa.
