When a film takes 10 years of build up and 18 previous efforts to create a cinematic universe, expectations are going to be sky high. This is the bar set for Avengers: Infinity War, which debuted in cinemas a couple of weeks ago. It appears the hype and anticipation for Infinity War has paid off for Marvel Studios.

So much so that The Verge reports that it has recently passed the $1 billion mark in global ticket sales. It also set a record in the process, according to Deadline, taking 11 days to do so and surpassing another Disney-owned property in Star Wars: The Force Awakens which previously held the benchmark.

That number is expected to balloon even higher, as Infinity War has not released in markets like China, with it set to do so on 11 May. The film also beat The Force Awakens record for an opening weekend in the States, raking in $250 million. With Black Panther pulling off a similar feat in about four weeks of opening, it seems like Marvel Studios' momentum shows no signs of slowing down.
