First trailer for Mowgli is a darker take on The Jungle Book
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 22 May 2018 | Categories: NewsWe were intrigued to find out that Andy Serkis was working on a live action adaptation of the Jungle Book, not only because Jon Favreau (Iron Man) recently released a successful new version for Disney, but also as the motion capture specialist is often attached to projects that do extremely well. Now the first trailer for Mowgli has dropped, and all indications point to a far darker retelling of the famed Rudyard Kipling tale.
Yes, there are still talking animals, but examples of the gloomier tone feature Mowgli imprisoned in a cage and Shere Khan walking around with a limp. As such, things may not be the same as they appeared in the animated Disney film, and we might not get the happy ending we're all hoping for.
Along with Serkis being behind the camera and voicing Baloo, he's also been able to rope in some A list talent for this project. To that end Christian Bale will breathe life into Bagheera, Cate Blanchett is handling Kaa and Benedict Cumberbatch is taking over Shere Khan.
Landing in cinemas in October, hit play on the first trailer to see if Mowgli is up your alley. Then watch Andy Serkis talk about his vision for this film in the next video.
