Nintendo Switch gamers will soon be able to enjoy the full online experience that was missing from the console at launch earlier this year. To that end, the Nintendo Switch Online app is now available for download on iOS and Android.

The mobile app is not simply a companion to the Nintendo Switch Online experience, but actually forms an integral part of how the service works. As such, if you're wanting to get the most out of Switch Online, the app is a must.

One of the games being touted as part of the setup is Splatoon 2, which lands on the Nintendo Switch later this week (21 July). Consequently, access to Splatoon 2's ranking service, can only be done so via the app, with the on-console portion of Switch Online handling the voice-chat and game invites.

At the moment, Splatoon 2 is the only game optimised for the online platform, so you may want to wait until more titles are added to the mix before paying for subscription to the service.
