Snapchat's recent redesign is here to stay

At the beginning of the year, Snapchat (Snap Inc.) rolled out a comprehensive redesign of its social media app, but instead of garnering new sign-ups it has earned the ire and frustration of its user base.
The main issue with the redesign was that it confused long time Snapchat users, and was cited constantly for feeling unorganised and difficult to navigate compared to the previous iteration. This prompted a petition go up on Change.org to help get enough votes and persuade Snap Inc. to revert back to the old design and remove the current update.
To date, the petition has received 1.2 million of a proposed 1.5 million, but all of that counts for nil, as Snap Inc. recently posted a response on the petition page. "We hear you, and appreciate that you took the time to let us know how you feel. We completely understand the new Snapchat has felt uncomfortable for many," noted the response.
While acknowledging the frustration of its users, Snap Inc.'s response seemed to brush off any concerns, with the company standing firm on its stance for the update. "This new foundation is just the beginning, and we will always listen closely to find new ways to make the service better for everyone. We are grateful for your enthusiasm and creativity. We are very excited for what’s ahead," the response ended.
Whether or not this divisive update will hurt the company in the long run remains to be seen. With Snapchat trying to please existing users and win over new ones, Instagram appears to be pulling too far ahead.
