Trailers you may have missed this week - 13 April
By Staff Writer 13 April 2017 | Categories: newsWith Zuma protests and an impending Easter weekend taking up much of the focus, we've rounded up some trailers you might have missed this week. Enjoy.
Transformers: The Last Knight (Second trailer)
By now we thought the Transformers franchise would have gone gently into that good night, but alas, the fifth movie is set for release come June this year. After a wild first trailer, the latest one has dropped for Transformers: The Last Knight. If we were to be honest, it actually looks half decent and does enough to spark an interest. Mr Bay certainly packs it in, with more action in this 2:44 minute trailer than most directors can manage in a lifetime.
Release date: 23 June 2017 (United States)
Best bit: Some sweet blade work at 2:27.
Atomic Blonde (Second trailer)
After recently kicking ass in Fury Road and The Fate of the Furious, onse Charlize continues her bone crushing ways in the second trailer for Atomic Blonde. The movie features some of the hottest stars, including James McAvoy (young Professor Charles Xavier), Bill Skarsgård (Pennywise in the new IT), John Goodman (The Big Lebowski) and Sofia Boutella, who is no stranger to action herself after showcasing her skills in Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond.
Release date: 28 July 2017 (United States)
Best bit: After watching, replay and just listen to the soundtrack.
Tokyo Ghoul (Live Action)
Like many anime adapted from manga, Tokyo Ghoul centres around a seemingly normal young man in the form of Ken Kaneki. His simple world is upended in a big way when he encounters a Rize Kamishiro, a ghoul or vampire for lack of a better word.
Both the anime and manga for Tokyo Ghoul are violently bloody and at times gorey enough to bring up your lunch. If the producers can make this live action Japanese version anywhere near as gruesome, horror fans might have something to look forward to. We've thrown in the English dub anime trailer too.
Release Date: 29 July 2017 (Japan)
Best bit: Seeing Ken's zipper mask towards the end.
The Hitman's Bodyguard (Red Band Trailer)
Reynolds, Jackson, action and swearing. Need we say more? Ok fine then, from what we can decipher from the trailer, Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) plays a man who protects people for a living. In this case, he's tasked with protecting Samuel L. Jackson (all the movies), who, of course, also happens to be a hitman.
Precisely why the pair have been put together is a little unclear, but as you can tell from the salty language in the red band trailer below, things get intense. Luckily, Jackson drops just enough MF-bombs to keep the mood light.
Release Date: 18 August 2017 (United States)
Best bit: Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You providing the romance.
Baby Driver (Second trailer)
Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Cornetto Trilogy) is pulling writer and director duties on this one, with this new project focusing on a getaway driver by the name of Baby (Ansel Elgort, The Fault in Our Stars).
There's also a stellar cast joining him with the likes of Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx and Jon Hamm, plus the star of the show, a red Subaru Impreza Baby uses as his main means of transport.
Release date: 28 June 2017 (United States)
Best bit: Jamie Foxx describing what the job entails at 0:32.
