When we first saw the ten second teasers for Ghost in the Shell, we mentioned we were quietly optimistic. Our optimism seems to be well founded with an official trailer seeing the light of day.

And yes, it seems the movie is stylistically keeping to the 1995 anime, with for example the iconic ‘diving’ scene kept pretty much the same.

Director Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) has taken on a lot when he opted to go for a real-life remake of the Mamoru Oshii classic, with some criticising the studio for casting Scarlett Johansson as the main character The Major/ Motoko Kusanagi instead of an Asian lead.

For those not in the know about the plot, The Major, a human cyborg, leads a crack police team on the hunt for an elite hacker who is hell-bent on destroying Hanka Robotic – the company responsible for our protagonist’s design.

As you will see in the trailer, our villain might have a few aces up his sleeve, seeing that The Major struggles with some identity problems, and might just need his help in figuring out her own history.

Ghost in the Shell is set for release on 31 March 2017, at least in the States. The trailer is a romp, so hit play below as soon as you can.
