Intel has a new offering in the works, as the company revealed its 8th Gen Core processors. The CPUs boast a 40% increase in processing speed compared to its predecessor (7th Gen Kaby Lake), according to the company.

Along with the boost in speed, Intel has adopted a different approach to the 8th Gen Core lineup, with it introducing a mixture of architectures, both for the new CPU and forthcoming processors. To that end, the 8th Gen makes us of the Kaby Lake's 14 nm+ design, with Intel noting that future architectures will be based off the Coffee Lake (14 nm++) and Cannon Lake (10 nm+).

Whether or not the recently teased Ice Lake design will also be featured in the 8th Gen Core moving forward, remains to be seen. As for when it will be placed within devices, Intel will make the new 8th Gen Core available to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) from September onwards, while likely means CES next year will see the first hardware sporting the chips.
